Unlocked Cellphone – Unlock Your Wireless Phone
A phone that is unlocked means it is a GSM phone which isn’t locked into a single network. So, what is the meaning of this? You are able to use your GSM phone with any GSM provider throughout the world. You merely pop the SIM card in to the phone for simple and immediate service.
GSM is a type of digital technology that CDMA, TDMA, or iDEN is compatible with. SIM or subscriber information module refers to a removable account card with its own identifying serial number that links you with a wireless service. GSM phones are not linked directly to anyone. This implies that you may place your SIM inside any compatible phone and it will function just like your own. Your SIM is identified, rather than your phone. Thus it is possible to change companies without needing to swap phones, with the exception of a provider that locks their phones to operate solely with their own SIM cards.
Within the U.S., the sole GSM wireless providers for phones at present are AT&T and T-Mobile. When traveling abroad, you can simply replace your SIM card with a foreign one.
It’s a fairly simple procedure to obtain service for an unlocked phone. First, subscribe to service with AT&T or T-Mobile at one of their outlets or online at their site. Once you have your SIM card, it’s fairly easy; just put it into the phone and begin placing calls.
Is there a way to see if your phone is unlocked or not?
It’s as simple as swapping out SIM cards with a different phone from a different wireless company. In the event that it is functioning and displays the other phone number, the unlocking is achieved. Your phone is considered locked if you get an error message or if nothing works.
Remember that to access the Internet you’ll have to ensure your phone has been programmed to Internet settings expressly for AT&T or T-Mobile. The provider can furnish you with settings or you may locate them on their online site.
Is there a reason why a person would wish to unlock their wireless phone?
There are several reasons:
* You may wish to switch wireless service providers in the US and keep your current phone.
* You switched companies and bought a different phone, however you’d like to have the other as your spare by interchanging the SIM card if you need it.
* You are planning a trip abroad and want to avoid the expense of roaming charges abroad.
What do you have to do to unlock your phone?
There are two basic ways to do this.
By simply entering a code into your phone you can unlock it. The code is a specific number for your certain phone.
There are some phones that before unlocking, need their operating software to be rewritten. To do this, you will need to connect the phone via a data cable to a special programming unit. There are some professional services that will unlock your phone for a small charge.

Question: Unlocked cellphone???
1. what is an unlocked cell phone?
2. what does it do?
3. what do you have to pay for… meaning do you have to buy a plan???
gaaa. i don’t get it… :[ please help…
Answer: 1. An unlocked cell phone is one that works with any carrier that uses SIM CARDS. An example of those carriers here would be ATT and TMobile. Verizon and Sprint most likely won’t work because they do not use sim cards. Most unlocked cell phones generally require the sim card.
2. It allows you not to be tied to a specific carrier and you can switch carriers while having the unlocked cell phone. It is also a “must” if you travel out of the country. You could just buy prepaid cards overseas and use them on your unlocked cellphone.
3. Carriers here generally never give you unlocked phones anyway. So you do not have to buy a plan from them. You can generally only buy unlocked phones overseas or over sites like amazon or ebay. The deficit is that these phones are generally rather expensive. The phones themselves are often much nicer and better than the phones here on the u.s. market. but some of the features of your service provider might not work that good or differently (example T-Mobile my faves). There’s probably still a way to set it up if you were to tell them, but it might work a different way.
In short, an unlocked cell phone only depends on the sim card that is inside of it. That is a major asset and I would highly suggest them if you have the money.
